The worst thing owners do

The worst thing owners do that completely sucks the joy out of life with their dog...

...is not accepting the dog they have.

Nobody else has your dog.

Nobody else is in the same boat as you.

There’ll always be people imparting their wisdom upon you, based on their own experience with their really easy, problem-free dog.

But that doesn’t mean their wisdom is useful, relevant or appropriate for you and your dog.

I have had some rubbish rides with my dogs, so for sure, I’ve had periods of comparing my dogs and our progress to others and struggled a lot with self-doubt and frustration.

It really does just take all the joy out of our relationship with them.

At the end of the day, we’ve got to just crack on with what we’ve got, whether it’s what we imagined it would be or not.

If your dog needs more guidance than some, that’s fine.

It doesn’t make your dog bad, or you rubbish.

Find the right trainer to work with that’s going to educate you and help you develop the skills and confidence you need to start enjoying the ride.

But for the sake of your dog and your sanity, just accept your dog for who they are, quirks and all.

Stop comparing them and your progress to others.

Try to embrace the lessons this dog is going to give you, because these are the dogs that will turn you into an awesome dog owner and one day, you’ll be so grateful for this journey.

Maybe not today...

...But one day!

If you're in a rut and finding things frustrating and feeling overwhelmed because nothing seems to be working, please do book in a free call. I'll be really happy to chat with you.

Whether we have worked together before, or are brand new to each other, you are very welcome to a call, because sometimes, just that little bit of clarity can make all the difference.

If you're ready to jump in, the Pet Gundog Life Skills and Obedience course is a great place to start for most. With small groups held outdoors and a crazy amount of support for the 7-weeks and beyond, it will give you a great foundation to build on.

The next course is starting with week 1 online on Friday 8th March and in-person group sessions starting on Saturday 16th March.

*** FOR THIS COURSE ONLY ***

I'm going to be throwing in an extra bonus of a 30-minute 1-2-1 Zoom call so we can have some time together to chat about you, your dog and your struggles and get a plan in place to make life easier for you.

*** MUST BE BOOKED BEFORE THURSDAY 7th MARCH ***
